CoMA: Contemporary Music for All
2015 Calls for Pieces and Summer School
CoMA enables musicians of all abilities to actively participate in contemporary music. Each year we issue calls for pieces for a range of performers. In 2015 we have five opportunities which are open to composers of all ages and nationality. Selected works from all calls will be workshopped at the CoMA Contemporary Music Summer School, performed by CoMA regional ensembles and included in the CoMA Library which makes them available for wider performance.
Percussion Duo & Ensemble
Open Score is CoMA’s ongoing project to generate new repertoire for amateur ensembles of varying size and instrumentation. This year’s work is for a semi-professional and an amateur percussionist with flexible ensemble. Percussionist Chris Brannick (ensemblebash etc.) will be on the selection panel and play the first solo part at Summer School.
Following a successful pilot in 2014 we are looking for fresh exploratory, experimental works for addition to the CoMA Partsong Book under the artistic direction of James Weeks (Director of EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble).
Voice and Cello
Imaginative works for Voice and Cello will be performed at the Summer School by Sarah Leonard (soprano) and Sophie Harris (cello).
Works for three or more recorders that will be workshopped at the Summer School under the direction of Emily Bloom of Consortium5 ensemble.
Works for mixed ability cello ensemble to be played at the Summer School under the direction of Sophie Harris.
CoMA Summer School
There is a wide range of options for composers at this year’s Summer School in High Melton, near Doncaster, Yorkshire from 2 to 8 August 2015. As well as the calls for pieces there will be an intensive strand led by composer Tansy Davis and sessions dealing with time as a compositional parameter and writing for percussion. There are also be many instrumental and vocal options. Full details are available at www.coma.org/summermusic.
